Dietitian? What the heck does it mean??

So I’m a dietitian? What the hell does that mean?

Being a dietitian means that I have completed my bachelors of science in Nutrition, completed a Masters program, completed a 1200 hour internship, passed a test (basically boards), and paid a whole bunch of $$$ to get acknowledged by all sorts of dietetics orgs that I am in fact a REGISTERED FREAKING DIETITIAN.

So what really is the difference between a dietitian, a nutritionist, a health coach, and your friend selling you a pyramid scheme? Anyone, literally anyone, can call themselves a nutritionist or a health coach. Your friend who lost 10 pounds by going on keto? Nutritionist. Your neighbor who joined an MLM and needs you to sign up under her so she can make some $$? Health coach. A Registered Dietitian must complete all of the things I completed above, thus changing what I am legally allowed to offer you. I attached a graphic at the end to make the comparison a little easier.

Side note: Please for the LOVE OF GOD do not just take nutrition advice from anyone. Most people trying to sell nutrition products, supplements, restrictive plans, detoxes, etc. are preying on vulnerable individuals for their own personal gain. In the end, these products can have negative effects on your health and wellbeing. If you need advice about nutrition or have questions, SEE A REGISTERED DIETITIAN.

Now, back to me ;) What am I really doing with this website? How can I help you? As a dietitian, I can help you with your daily habits around food, how to change them, your patterns with food (coping mechanisms, disordered eating behavior), and ALLLLLL sorts of things catered specifically to who you are as a person and what would work best for you. Most people make nutrition incredibly complicated and overwhelming, when it really does not have to be. That’s why I am here.

The Party Dietitian preaches sustainability, so I am not going to put you on a diet that you will get burnt out on, not be able to follow for the rest of your life, or something that restricts you to the point of having to say no to social outings.

My approach is body positive and promotes the idea that all foods and bodies fit in this world. The Party Dietitian preaches empowerment, which means learning to be comfortable with your body and knowing that the food you consume does not determine your worth. We will work on unlearning most of what you probably know about nutrition and reframe it. I can cater to what your needs are based on how your body functions, if you have underlying conditions, past trauma, and what your current day to day looks like.

The Party Dietitian is essentially a food therapist. By booking a session I am there to help you find ways to help you reach your nutrition related goals— whatever they may be— in a healthy, not overwhelming, and sustainable way. Let’s freaking eat!!

Xoxo,

Kam
